SSAFA Big Brew Up

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

SSAFA thank everyone who took the time to visit the Real Bean Coffee shops on Station and in Wittering village to support the SSAFA Big Brew Up, 2 October.  Particular thanks are offered to Mr Keith Appleyard and the ISS team for organising the SSAFA Big Brew Great Wittering Bake-Off Competition, allowing the set up of stalls in both coffee shops and for the kind donation of cakes and sausage rolls.

Well done to all those who took the time to bake and submit a cake or cupcakes for the Great Wittering Bake-Off Competition. The judges had a tough decision to make but were very thorough when deciding a winner; Mary Berry better watch out!!   Overall, £274.23 was raised on the day which will stay here at Wittering to be used in support of SSAFA initiatives.  Congratulations to the SSAFA team at Peterborough City Hospital who held their own Big Brew and raised an amazing sum of over £600.

SSAFA has been delighted to receive a donation of £150 from Mrs Enid Jones, the mother-in-Law of Mrs Diane Jones our Secretary as well as £130 from our Chair’s mother.  The ladies held their own Big Brews in their respective home towns and kindly donated the proceeds to us.  Way to go the mothers!!!

The ever popular Wittering Halloween Disco took place on 26 October with an amazing and scary array of costumes on display.  Parents made a great effort with their fancy dress that as well as best boy and girl prizes an additional award was given for the best adult costume on the night. After the success of the Halloween Disco, plans are afoot for the Christmas Disco which will take place on 14 Dec from 1730 – 2000hrs.  All families are welcome so please come along; Santa will be making an appearance with Dave’s Disco and the fabulous balloon and face painting lady, the kids will have a great time.  The bar will be open for soft drinks for the children and little bit of Christmas cheer for the adults.

Finally, if anyone would like to help or support, whether single, married or a family member, feel free to contact either the SSAFA Volunteers or Terry, the SSAFA Social Worker.   Whether you require a listening ear, transport to hospital, mowing the lawn, or even walking the dog – any problems, large or small can be dealt with.  The Co-ordinater is on 07717 858008 during working hours and Terry can be located the Amenities Centre on 01780 783838 Ext 7793.
